clara | 10 months

I'm beginning to feel like a broken record. Where has the past 10 months gone? How is it that I am already planning for Clara's one year birthday party?

We are so in love with this little sass. This past month, Clara has become even. more. fun. Is that even possible? Clara is suchhh a happy girl. She gives laughs (really belly laughs) away for free. She is soo playful. She really does add so much light to our life. Some fun things we did this month were the St. Louis Earth Day Festival, Grant's Farm and a visit to San Antonio for our adorable niece's first birthday.

  • Now stands occasionally unassisted and cruises around the house like a pro. She is really exploring. She is constantly opening drawers and cabinets and pulling the contents out everywhere. I recently had to reorganize the kitchen...
  • Jumps in her crib.
  • Started pushing the laundry basket around/walkers easily. She has a grin from ear to ear, as she goes.
  • Still LOVES to "dance-a, dance-a" or "rocka, rocka."
  • Still only has two teeth.
  • Says "Ma-ma", "Ba-ba," "Ga-ga." Has now said "Da-da" but won't repeat it on command. Has the first part of "uh-oh" down.
  • She loves to clap, play peek-a-boo, and wave "hi/bye."
  • She is really figuring out how the world works. She puts clothes are her head and actively tries to help you dress her. She tries to put Nora's shoes on her feet and the other day even tried to use her brush to brush her hair.
  • Has started giving the best wet, open mouth kisses!!

We are still doing amazingly in this area. FINALLY. We have finally found consistency in our sleep routine and sleep rules (which of course can be flexible if Clara needs extra comfort i.e. teething, sick, etc.).
  • Strict bedtime routine includes bathtime, lotion, nursing, stories, a few minutes of rocking, and into bed. I no longer nurse her immediately before bed or naps.
  • Sleeps with a sound machine and due to her VERY cold room, a space heater, as well.
  • Sleeps with her owl blanket/lovie and a pacifier.
  • If she cries at all during the night, we try to let her put herself back to sleep. She sleeps with about 100 pacifiers, so she nearly always finds one and goes back to sleep.

  • Clara eats a regular three meals per day.
  • Breakfast faves include oat cereal, toast with cream cheese or toast with almond butter, yogurt (flavored or plain with almond butter) and fruit. Favorite fruit by a mile is blueberries. I cannot refill her tray fast enough.
  • Lunch and dinner faves include avocado, grapes, cheddar cheese, whole wheat tortillas (and quesadillas), veggie burger, star pasta, peas, grilled cheese, broccoli.
  • We still do quite a few pureed pouches. Her favorites are still the Plum Belly Blend and the blueberry, banana, oat, chia, sun butter blend. However, she has started to warm to up more of the vegetable blends with zucchini and spinach.

  • This girl is taking after her Auntie Bri. She is part little girl, part fish. She crawls to the tub and begs to go in. She is fearless and lays on her belly in the tub. She started blowing bubbles. She is constantly drinking the bath water (either directly from the tub, from a cup, or sucking the wash cloth dry). She splashes like a crazy girl and giggles and giggles. She stands and falls intentionally to splash. I LOVE how much shes loves water. It is going to be one. fun. summer.
  • Peek-a-boo is still her favorite game. She plays it by herself in Noras teepee or with blankets and clothes she finds on the floor. She thinks she is absolutely hysterical. She even plays peekaboo with the shower curtain.
  • Books. It has only been in the past few weeks that she really seems interested in books. We have a dinosaur book that she makes the cutest happy noises when we read it to her. And...much like her big sister, she LOVES the circle book we got from the Pediatrician in Nora's first year. One of my favorite developments is that she turns the pages of the books on her own as we read.
  • Pacifiers. This girl LOVES her pacifier. She sleeps with a thousand and one. We find them ALL OVER the house and definitely do not leave the house without one. She prefers the smaller ones (size 0-6 months) probably because she is still such a little mite. Its really funny to watch her play with her pacifiers. She constantly spits out one to put a different one in. We also know when shes hungry because the pacifier goes projectile.

We didn't have a doctor's visit this month, but a rough estimate on our home scale is 16.4 lb.
